First Grisham Visiting Writer Event

Maggie Smith and Catherine Pierce will be reading in a double-billed poetry event at 7:00 pm on September 19th at the Depot on the Oxford Campus. Come out to hear these two fantastic poets and support our Visiting Writers!

Maggie Smith’s most recent books are Good Bones (Tupelo Press, 2017) and The Well Speaks of Its Own Poison (Tupelo Press, 2015), winner of the Dorset Prize. Her poems have appeared in the New York Times, Ploughshares, AGNI, The Paris Review, The Best American Poetry 2017, and elsewhere. In 2016 her poem “Good Bones” went viral internationally and was called the “Official Poem of 2016” by Public Radio International. Smith is the recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Ohio Arts Council, and the Sustainable Arts Foundation.

Catherine Pierce’s most recent book is The Tornado Is the World (Saturnalia 2016), winner of the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters Poetry Prize; her other books are The Girls of Peculiar (Saturnalia 2012) and Famous Last Words (Saturnalia 2008). Her poems have appeared in The Best American PoetryBoston ReviewPloughsharesThe Southern ReviewA Public Space, and elsewhere. She co-directs the creative writing program at Mississippi State University.
